Stainless steel ladder sprockets eliminate rust-induced tooth roughening that accelerates chain plate wear in wet and chemically aggressive environments. Two grades cover the majority of Australian applications:
SS304 Grade Ladder Sprockets
General-purpose austenitic stainless steel with 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Delivers reliable corrosion resistance in high-humidity environments, dairy processing plants and standard food-grade conveyor lines. Suitable for continuous wash-down at temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius. Conforms to FDA 21 CFR 174-178 contact requirements.
- Typical hardness: HRC 20-25 (annealed)
- Applications: bakeries, beverage bottling, cold storage conveyors
SS316 / 316L Grade Ladder Sprockets
Molybdenum-enriched austenitic stainless with superior pitting resistance in chloride, acid and alkaline media. 316L low-carbon variant prevents carbide precipitation during welding, critical for pharmaceutical and marine fabrications. Continuous operating temperature tolerance up to 200 degrees Celsius. Meets FDA, REACH and EN 10088-3 specifications.
- Typical hardness: HRC 20-25 (annealed)
- Applications: seafood processing, chemical dosing lines, offshore platform conveyors
Пластикалық/полимерлі баспалдақ жұлдызшалары
Engineering polymer sprockets deliver self-lubrication, noise reduction and contamination-free operation where metal particle generation is unacceptable. Three resin families serve different load and temperature envelopes:
POM (Acetal) Sprockets
High crystallinity thermoplastic with a low friction coefficient of 0.20-0.35 against steel. Excellent dimensional stability under cyclic loading. Preferred for precision electronic assembly conveyors and light-duty packaging lines where lubricant-free operation is mandatory.
- Temp range: -40 to 100 degrees C
- Tensile strength: 60-70 MPa
UHMW-PE Sprockets
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with the lowest coefficient of friction (0.10-0.22) of any engineering plastic. Absorbs impact energy without fracturing, protecting modular plastic belts from tooth-strike damage. Ideal for lubricant-free, low-noise food conveying and pharmaceutical tablet transport.
- Temp range: -260 to 80 degrees C
- Abrasion resistance: 5-10x HDPE
PEEK Sprockets
Semi-crystalline thermoplastic rated for continuous service at 250 degrees Celsius. Chemical resistance comparable to 316 stainless at a fraction of the weight. Self-lubricating and non-outgassing, making it the material of choice for semiconductor fabrication cleanrooms and gamma-sterilised pharmaceutical environments.
- Tensile strength: 100 MPa
- ISO Class 5 cleanroom compatible
Carbon Steel & Heavy-Duty Ladder Sprockets
Where raw load capacity and economy outweigh corrosion concerns, carbon steel and cast iron ladder sprockets deliver the highest strength-to-cost ratio. Three tiers address escalating wear and impact demands:
C45 / 45# Standard Carbon Steel
Medium-carbon steel (0.42-0.50% C) normalised or quenched-and-tempered to HRC 20-30. Cost-effective baseline for general industrial conveying, warehousing sortation and agricultural grain handling where ambient humidity remains moderate.
Induction Hardened Teeth
Tooth flanks selectively heated to 850-950 degrees Celsius by medium-frequency induction coils, then water-quenched to achieve a case hardness of HRC 50-58 over a depth of 1.5-3.0 mm while the hub retains ductile core toughness. Dramatically extends re-pitch intervals in high-cycle, abrasive-dust environments such as timber milling and cement batching.
Cast Iron Heavy-Duty Series
Spheroidal graphite (SG) cast iron ladder sprockets heat-treated to achieve tensile strength exceeding 600 MPa. Designed for shock-loaded bulk material conveyors transporting ROM ore, coal and crushed aggregate. Hub bores machined to H7 tolerance for interference fit on hardened shafts.
Арнайы қорытпадан жасалған баспалдақ жұлдызшалары
When standard carbon or stainless steel cannot survive the thermal or abrasive extremes of smelter conveyors, kiln feed systems or mineral-sand dryers, we manufacture custom ladder sprockets in heat-resistant and wear-resistant alloy compositions. Typical substrates include Inconel 625, Hastelloy C-276 and high-chromium white iron, selected after thermal-mechanical analysis of the specific duty cycle.

Different production environments impose different failure modes. Each solution below pairs the correct material grade with the dominant wear mechanism in that industry sector.
Food Processing Ladder Sprockets
High-pressure hot wash-down cycles (80-95 degrees C, 1500 psi caustic solution) attack non-food-grade metals within months. Our FDA-compliant SS304 and SS316L ladder sprockets maintain surface passivation through daily CIP protocols. Electropolished tooth profiles (Ra less than 0.8 um) prevent bacterial harbourage on bakery oven conveyors, fryer discharge lines, IQF spiral freezers and cold-chain sortation systems.

Mining & Heavy Material Handling Ladder Sprockets
Run-of-mine ore generates airborne silica dust (Mohs 7) that infiltrates chain articulation points and erodes sprocket tooth flanks. Our induction-hardened carbon steel and SG cast iron ladder sprockets tolerate continuous abrasive ingress in apron feeders, armoured face conveyors and ROM bin discharge systems. Tooth hardness of HRC 50-58 delivers 2-3x wear life versus untreated alternatives in Pilbara iron-ore and Hunter Valley coal operations.

Packaging & Light Industry Automation Ladder Sprockets
High-speed case-packing lines (120+ cartons/min) demand repeatable tooth engagement with zero backlash. POM and UHMW-PE ladder sprockets provide the precision pitch tolerance (within 0.05 mm cumulative) and low inertia required for servo-driven indexing conveyors in FMCG packaging, bottle labelling and pallet wrapping stations.
Recommended: Polymer Ladder Sprockets →
Electronics & Pharma Cleanroom Ladder Sprockets
Particulate shedding from metallic sprockets contaminates wafer fabrication and aseptic fill-finish zones. PEEK ladder sprockets generate zero metallic particulate, resist gamma and electron-beam sterilisation, and maintain dimensional stability in ISO Class 5 laminar-flow environments. Suitable for SMT reflow oven transport, blister-pack conveyors and lyophiliser loading systems.

Heat Treating Industry Ladder Sprockets
Continuous mesh-belt furnaces for carburising, nitriding and tempering expose sprockets to radiant temperatures of 700-950 degrees Celsius. Special alloy ladder sprockets (Inconel 625, high-Cr heat-resistant steel) resist oxidation scaling and creep deformation through thousands of thermal cycles, maintaining pitch accuracy for consistent belt tracking in atmosphere-controlled furnace chambers.

Industrial Cleaning & Coating Ladder Sprockets
Pre-treatment dip tanks, phosphate baths and e-coat systems expose drive components to pH 1-13 media. SS316L ladder sprockets with electropolished self-cleaning tooth profiles resist chemical attack while preventing residue accumulation that causes chain mis-tracking on automotive body-in-white wash lines and powder-coat cure oven conveyors.
Recommended: Stainless Steel (SS316L) →
Agricultural Machinery Ladder Sprockets
Grain auger discharge, chaff spreading and root-crop elevator conveyors operate in high-moisture, high-particulate field conditions with minimal maintenance windows. Zinc-plated C45 carbon steel ladder sprockets offer the balance of wear life, impact resistance and cost-effectiveness demanded by broadacre cropping and pastoral machinery OEMs across the Australian wheat belt and sugar cane regions.
